CLOWN SOUNDS: Born Under a Bad Sigh: LP

Jul 20, 2022

I feel that if you’re reading Razorcake, I probably don’t have to explain the majesty and genius of Todd Congelliere to you. When he’s involved in a project, you undoubtedly know he is there, but each thing has its own distinct flavor. Clown Sounds, while a newer project, feels to me like a bridge between the structure of Toys That Kill and the loose, party aspect of Underground Railroad To Candyland. They hit that sweet spot where you just don’t know what to expect, but you know it’s going to get you out of your seat. This really expands on their 2018 debut Preacher Maker. Fun music for less-than-fun times. I also need to mention the references to the 1982 film Creepshow. I think it’s safe to say that if it isn’t Todd’s favorite movie, it’s right up there. Not only is the cover of the comic that comes with this record based on the cover of the comic version of Creepshow, but the song “Broken Meteor” is a direct reference to “The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill” in the movie. Go out and get this now, you lunkhead! –Ty Stranglehold (Recess)
