CIRCLE JERKS: Group Sex 40th Anniversary Edition: LP

I had somehow never heard this record all the way through until three or four years ago, when one of my co-workers did a purge of his physical media and gave me his copy. I kept the CD in my car stereo for a solid six months afterward, all the while marveling that I think I’m so punk rock but had never listened to this absolutely perfect album. Razorcake readers: I have been living a lie! I have been a goddamn poser for going on thirty years! I must do penance by listening to the completely crucial Group Sex reissue even more than I already did in my car! I listened to the CD so much that I lost track of where it started and ended: now, when I drop the needle on side A of this completely bonkers colored vinyl edition, I’m still shocked the damn thing doesn’t start with “Red Tape.” If, somehow, you’ve gotten to this point in your life without hearing this record, please realize that a) you, too, are unassailably a poser, and b) you have the opportunity to give yourself a tremendous gift by becoming acquainted with Group Sex, which will rudely elbow all your previous favorites the fuck out of the way while it spits a beer in your ugly poser face. If you already know this album, first off, I envy that you’ve had so many life experiences with the Circle Jerksas the soundtrack. Foundational moments in your life happened with this rec on in the background. You’ll love the goddamn tome of an insert booklet, littered with scene luminaries aplenty waxing poetic bout how incredible the band is, as well as the unreleased demo tracks and colored vinyl. NO MORE! RED TAPE! –Michael T. Fournier (Trust, facebook.com/trustrecordscompany)
