Chris Boarts Larson Photo Column – To What End?
Once upon a time, I would drive six hours just to see a band play, then turn around and drive back home. It was 2005 and nothing was going to keep me from seeing my favorite band in my favorite town. I was a road warrior and thought nothing of it. The motivation to see the band was so strong that any possible distance could be covered to fulfill that destiny, which is what happened for To What End? in Pittsburgh. It was a weeknight and I couldn’t stay for long—so I drove the six hours—saw the show, took a quick nap, and then drove back home in time for work the next day. It was a super fun show and well worth it all! What I wouldn’t do to have that force of energy again.
The first time I heard the Swedish band To What End?—I had found perfection! I remember many a day and night just sitting with the record and playing it and having my own personal rock out sesh. With guitars and drums from Wolfbrigade members and dual male/female vocals delivering a divergent, catchy, pummeling Swedish d-beat with harmonic weaving guitars, and a hard-driving beat. Oh Eleanor, how I love you!
I got to see them a few more times—at a fest in Chicago and in a tiny dive bar in Richmond, VA. It kinda feels like I could have toured the world with them since at some point we all went out to some late night dance club. To this day, they remain one of my all-time favorite bands that still fuel me!
