I get obsessed with bands. I am always on the search for the band that will fuel my fire and spark the adrenaline of inspiration. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been deeply moved by music. When I get into something it becomes all-encompassing. After all these years, I still feel compelled to see, hear, and watch every band that plays a show I go to because I never know when I might see my new favorite band. Discovering new bands keeps me going.

Prisoner have been one of those bands for me. I first saw them a few years ago at a local RVA Punx Picnic show and was wowed. Since then, they’ve been playing and touring regularly. I go out of my way to see them every chance I get. Every time I see them I feel like they take their sound to a new level. They add layers of absolutely crushing heaviness—pummeling d-beat punk rock on a foundation that is both brooding and explosive—creating a complex and layered sound that is dark and apocalyptic.

It speaks to me. I want to shout about Prisoner from the mountain tops.

They have a new album recorded that will hopefully be released soon.
