Every time I went to a show in Philly, there was a girl standing front and center watching every band. She was young and she was stoked and it was always awesome to see her smiling face at all those Philly Fest and rad Unitarian Church shows.

When I first heard the band Hellshock, I was obsessed. I lived and breathed Hellshock. I went to see them every time I got a chance, which for a band from Portland, Ore. was—fortunately for us East Coasters—pretty often. When Hazel graduated from high school she had Hellshock play in her parents’ basement to celebrate. It was probably one of the coolest things to ever happen. A bunch of years later, Hazel is a plant biologist. I think she’s one of the most inspiring and awesome people in the world. And Hellshock is still one of my live-or-die, all-time favorite bands. Hellshock for breakfast, Hellshock for high school graduation. Hellshock and Hazel forever! Cheers!
