The first time I saw Born Dead Icons, Alex pummeled the drums so hard he was almost falling off his stool while playing “Leas Visions.” To this day, that is one of the most perfect songs ever. I loved BDI from the first demo. I was so stoked when they came to Richmond that I skipped a gallery opening that was showing some of my photos in order to see them. No regrets.

Born Dead Icons are a perfect hardcore punk band with raging, pummeling drums, throaty vocals, and a heavy and dark melodic overtone unlike any other. They came through Richmond a few times and played basement house shows. I got to see them at many fests across the country. Every time was awesome. I think BDI are an underrated band in the scope of the history of punk, and yet I know they are beloved by all who know them.

This picture is from the second time they came through Richmond and played with From Ashes Rise. Talk about a perfect capsule of time!

Queue up “Leas Visions” on the Work LP . Then listen to the rest of Work and then head straight to Ruins. Damn, I love BDI!,
