I would listen to this while I played D&D, one hundred percent for sure. It’s a Baroness-like hero’s journey, ruminating on philosophy and religion. According to the creature from whose mind it emerges, Josh Hines, there’s a lot in here about the relationship between gods and humans which makes it feel very metal in obvious and not-so-obvious ways. I read this interview with him where he talks about the artwork for the record, which is very ethereal and cool but also a little cartoon-y, and he said he ended up making a record for the album art, which I thought was cool. And it does fit really well. It’s very nerdy in some ways, deep into mythology, but also mind-expanding. Would recommend for any role playing game session in which you’re going on a long journey. –Theresa W. (Self-released)
