A 36% attendance rate isn’t bad for living about 2,000 miles away. Anyway, I hope you’ll feel like you’ve attended one of these after reading this column. That is my goal.
Sicko came out of retirement to celebrate pogoing, Converse All-Stars, and leather jackets for the first-ever Seattle Pop Punk Fest. The two day event covered three decades worth of melodic North West bubblegum bands— seventeen in total!
It was so cool to be around people I’d never met who knew all the same words and loved music in all the same ways.
They frontloaded the set with some more mellow tracks like “Jet Black,” and for the first four songs everyone had their own space to enjoy the show. For a bit I felt like I was the only one in the room and appreciated the tranquility of the crowd. You almost couldn’t hear the stage vocals over hundreds of people singing in unison to their favorite songs.
I have a passion for working with influential feminist bands, so there’s no better band to travel the country with than the amazing women in Bad Cop / Bad Cop.
