This is the second release from Carthiefschool in less than a year and it continues with the style they displayed on their last release. There’s still some ’90s Dischord sound I heard last time, but on these six tracks I sense the three-piece moving away from that to some degree. There’s a good mix of post-hardcore screams, jazzy bass, and angular guitar. It’s like if some of the post-punk bands of the ’90s (Don Caballero, June Of 44) got a vocalist from a late ’90s/early ’00s screamo band. Oh, and did all the vocals in Japanese. (The band is from Sapporo, Japan.) I have no idea how old the members of the band are, but they look young—yet it seems like they’re playing creative music beyond their years. –Kurt Morris (Transduction)
