BRIEFS, THE: Kids Laugh at You: 7”

Hell yeah, new Briefs, albeit rather brief. I’m not complaining though. As someone who’s been a fan since at least 2002, I have yet to be disappointed with anything they put out. The A Side, “Kids Laugh at You” sounds like it fits right in with the rest of their catalog: big guitar riffs, slick solos, sing-songy choruses, melodic hooks. All the parts are there. Then the flipside kicks in with a killer lead and a different singer. I can’t tell for sure, but it doesn’t sound like Steve E. Nix. My guess is Kicks? Either way, with this change there’s definitely a slight shift in tone, but not in quality. They almost remind me of ToyGuitar here. I really enjoy both tracks, but I’m leaning more towards the titular one. Here’s looking forward to a new full length. –Kayla Greet (Taken By Surprise)
