What we have here is a collection of comics written and drawn by various members of the skinhead scene in Santa Cruz, Calif. Lots of stories of drinking, fighting, and getting new boots. I enjoyed it for the most part, but I bet it is even better if you know the folks in the stories. There are some side stories that outline some general skinhead history, which are cool too. My favorite story was about how the group of skins were friends with the guys in Camper Van Beethoven and wound up being the inspiration for that song of theirs. Another cool thing about this book is that it comes with an exclusive Swingin’ Utters 7” (technically a Johnny Peebucks & The Swingin’ Utters as that is what they went by when it was recorded live in Santa Cruz in 1990). It’s a raw as hell live recording from a drunken New Year’s Eve party, but pretty damn fun to hear. –Ty Stranglehold (bootsnbooze.com)
