The Blind Shake is weirdo garage punk outfit from Minneapolis. The extra chromosome of psychedelia ensures that every song is a bit off-kilter—just enough to make your brain itch. This bass-less trio’s snarling, reverb-drenched jams often recall a Rick Froberg/John Reis collaboration, especially on “Apostle Island” and “Reasonable World.” This is rock’n’roll for degenerates, where lyrics seem to be the product of the cut-up method: “Flavonoids fill the void / Giant girls, lazy boys / Just figure it out.” The Blind Shake’s audacity (and insanity) keeps me on the edge of my seat.
