BLACK BLACK, THE: Careful On Your Way Out: LP

May 25, 2021

Bass-driven, dancy nightlife punk from NYC. The Black Black are a little sassy and sneer-y, like a scummier Imperial Teen or a punked-up take on The Faint. The songs flounce on a bit long, but maintain a nice sense of urgency and dynamics, and go down like a tallcan on the Williamsburg waterfront. Strong shout out to this band for taking the best of early ’00s dance punk, and cutting out the problematic/coked-up Vice Dos and Don’ts shit that always seemed to come with it. Now pardon me while I try to zip this old American Apparel hoodie around my gut. –Chris Terry (theblackblack.bandcamp.com)
