BETTY MACHETE AND THE ANGRY COUGARS: II: LP

Mar 10, 2023

The long-running five piece from Columbus, Ohio, is back with their latest full-length. Linda Dull’s gruff vocals spew pissed-off lyrics over the fourteen tracks that come in at twenty-one minutes. Musically, the five piece plays competently but the rhythm section is what really sticks out. It’s nice to hear a band bring the bass up in the mix and have that drive many of the songs. Also, I’m always up for a quick guitar solo on a fast-paced, short punk song and II has a few good ones. Also, despite the speed of the tracks, there are still hooks such as on “Legion” and “Blood on my Hands.” This album is a burner and recommended for anyone who finds themselves into both Dwarves and Black Flag. –Kurt Morris (Self-released, angrycougars.bandcamp.com)
