Never been a huge Bananas fan—blasphemy in these parts, perhaps—but I know they’ve been at this forever and are absolutely beloved by a bunch of folks. Not sure where Don’t Go toward the Light fits in their catalog, but I’m hearing a lot of frantic, almost jazzy stuff going on. Lot of Whoa whoas and doo-wop melodies, and then a song like “La Touraine” comes on, reminding me quite a bit of Future Virgins. But overall, yeah, a kind of buoyant, jazz thing at work. Would be interested to know how longtime fans felt about this record.
