Bad Weed are sunny, bouncy, shaggy. They do power pop and punk pop with ’60s rock touches; they plead, declare, bemoan, pass the time. They’re melodically gifted and concise, everything feels like a natural extension of who they are rather than genre tags being explored for exploration’s sake. I’m trying to say they’re charming and cool and have good taste, which you can especially hear on “No Place to Fall.” Is this the first time a punk band has covered Townes Van Zandt? Probably not, but I doubt anyone’s done it better. II has a lot of those moments, where you think: I’ve heard other bands do this, but I prefer it when Bad Weed does it. –Matt Werts (Siluh, siluh.com)
