While still firmly rooted in the bluegrass and country/western they explored in prior releases, this one seems a bit more slick and “modern,” for lack of a better word. The problem is that whatever scrappiness they may have had prior is kinda lost here, resulting in something that sounds like a release by one of those bands you see playing the “western” part of an amusement park that sounds pretty good in that context, but sounds like the musical equivalent of Cheez-Whiz anywhere else. And trust me, the lyrics only reinforce that impression.
