UNTIMELY DEMISE: City of Steel: CD

This is pretty well played metal, though they could use a singer with either a wider range or who’s just, you know, really good. The transition from singing metal to doing vocals for hardcore-tinged metal songs is not always easy, or successful. To be honest, while I love metal, I’m not a metalhead. Since that’s the case, it’s always the little things that make these bands stand out to me. I’ll walk into a metal show, watch six bands, love two, and walk out saying I love metal. Nothing positive stands out for me. I find the lone, constant cymbal quite obnoxious, their solos don’t rule, and their lyrics kind of rub me the wrong way. For example, they write, “with government invested authority hunting evil is my game,” and they don’t mean vampires or goblins; you know, cool, metal stuff: they mean the Taliban. They also make references to serving the UN and giving their lives at the “altar of freedom.”
