Spiral-Bound: By Aaron Reiner, 178 pgs.

Aug 31, 2008

A graphic novel chronicling the “top secret summer” of an aspiring journalist rabbit, a misunderstood art teacher dolphin, and an unassuming sculptor elephant that plays sidekick to a confident dog. Their hometown is wrapped up in rumors about a pond monster. While trying to find out the truth once and for all, the journalist ends up finding her place in the town’s underground, the art teacher is vilified by the townspeople, and the sculptor runs into trouble at every turn. In the world Aaron has created in his graphic novel, friendships are unbreakable, doors to the underground are everywhere if you know where to look, and grownups are the ones who always mess stuff up. Spiral-Bound has a fun, imaginative vibe that’s perfect for reading on the porch in the summertime. –Lauren Trout (Top Shelf Productions, PO Box 1282, Marietta, GA30061-1282)
