RAT HEART: Self-titled: EP

Sep 19, 2013

Straight-up 1970s-influenced American Midwest punk. The overall mood is light-hearted fun, such as in the song “Barbedwire Whip,” about all the ways the singer is going to whoop your ass, but you know it’s silly because the delivery is not delivered in the usual “masturbating gorilla” way. (The other clue is the opener, “Creature” about “a creature inside my brain.”) I also like the sentiment in “End of the World”—“I’m looking around for you because I don’t want to be alone at end of the world.” The music is energetic and suitable for your next social function where people come to get down.
