RADVOCATE, THE #8: $4, 8 ½” x 5 ½”, copied, 40 pgs.

Mar 07, 2013

With its focus on short stories and art, The Radvocate reminds me of the earnest, sloppy, but very sincere small press journals that were so vital to my own introduction to zine culture. This issue is rough around the edges, and there’s plenty of stuff that’s really not very good. And yet a few gems shine through: an interesting nonfiction piece written by the editor’s grandfather about his time in Europe during WWII, and a fiction piece about a Target employee who turns into a deer. –Keith Rosson (The Radvocate, 3245 University Ave., Ste. 1430, San Diego, CA92104)
