PUNK LIFE #42: 5 ½” x 8 ½”, $2, printed, 33 pgs.

It’s interesting to review a zine that is nothing but reviews. It could turn into a sort of infinite loop, reviewing ad nauseum. However, Punk Life does a great job with their reviews and they cover a wide spectrum of music and genres. There is a review of Dengue Fever, but they call them a “surf band,” which, although Dengue Fever has elements of surf, I would describe them as a Cambodian psychedelic band. Punk Life also contains a review of Mykel Board’s Even a Daughter Is Better Than Nothing. I haven’t read Mykel’s book, but due to this review, it’s now on my list of things to get, and I suppose that’s the best compliment a review-based zine could receive. Lastly, they mentioned something called, “Gamelan Punk.” Does this exist? Is there a band that mixes the hocket of Gamelan with punk rock? If so, I want to know where I can hear that band. –Steve Hart (Punk Life Zine, 2601 Sinclair Ave, Suite 9, Concord, CA94519)
