Pile Theory is a Baltimore-based zine that covers urban homesteading. It’s got a lot of really awesome info on becoming more self-sustaining in an urban environment. Some of the info, such as obtaining free land for a community garden may be city-specific to Baltimore, but many cities have programs like it. I found out a lot that I will be implementing into my daily life as soon as I can. It also covers how to make homebrew peach alcohol, which is cheap, smelly, and free. And if you’ve ever wanted to raise chickens in your city, well then there’s something in here for you too, as well as how to make soup stock from scraps. Some poetry and personal stories sprinkled in there really polish this one out. Great starter to urban homesteading. –James Meier ([email protected])
