NO ONE WILL SYNDICATE ME: 8 ½” x 11”, 26 pgs., $3

This is a collection of comic strips the author was trying to get syndicated in newspapers. It follows a larger narrative, three panels at a time, concerning a dirty punk house filled with cartoonish versions of people you might know. It sort of reads like a punk comic version of say, “Reality Bites”—a cast of subcultural flotsam lounge aimlessly around the house, cracking wise and, you know, fixing bikes and drinking coffee. It can be pretty funny and endearing at times, and not to discourage the ambitions of the author, but I can’t see many newspapers that would want to run a comic strip largely speaking the language and in-jokes of an insular subculture. After rejection upon rejection, Josh compiled his efforts into a zine, which to me feels like a logical step for a comic like this. Syndicated or not, I’m glad it’s out there. –Dave Brainwreck (Josh-Redd Sanchez, PO Box 7525, Ann Arbor, MI 48107)
