NIXON YEARS, THE: Reversing the Panopticon: CD

Jan 18, 2007

No question these guys can play their instruments, and they don’t hesitate to demonstrate their abilities often here. I like their willingness to branch out from stagnant hardcore structures and take a few risks, and what I hear of the lyrics gives the impression that they are working with more than a rudimentary grasp of politics (first two words uttered on the disc are “Operation Phoenix,” and just look up “Panopticon”), but the recording is so compressed that the music not only lacks power, the bass often sounds like a weakly blown trombone.
