MISHAP #29: BASALT: A LOVE STORY: $?, 7 ½”x 5 ½”, copied, 20 pgs.

Jul 21, 2011

Ryan Mishap’s new zine is a brilliant extended metaphor comparing geological events to those of his own life. The term “upheaval,” for instance, describes both a challenge to his relationship with his girlfriend and the process by which the earth’s crust moves to create land formations. The writing styleisn’t the same as what I’m used to seeing in zines—it’s more thoughtful and informational than punchy and adventurous—but that’s not a bad thing. –Ryan Mishap, PO Box 5841, Eugene, OR 97405
