It’s never easy for me to review MRR. There’s obviously a huge amount of respect for what the zine is, how important it’s been, and for how long, but man… I’ve just always found it hard to get through. I don’t know why. The reviews are always good and the columns are more insightful/entertaining than not, but that’s kinda where it ends for me. I think in an ideal world, band interviews would fall somewhere between MRR’s somewhat dry style and (dare I say) Razorcake’s more conversational tone: both obviously have their pros and cons. These interviews make up the bulk of both zines, and it’s likely no coincidence that the typical MRR review takes a friendly shot at Razorcake’s “fluffy” interview style and that I would find MRR’s style a bit too metered for my liking. But, I mean, you know what you’re getting here. –Dave Williams (PO Box 460760, SF, CA 94146-0760)
