Of all the local Los Angeles punk bands, X was the one that knocked me out on recordings! I never cared for their live performances, and that’s why I don’t have images of them in concert, but I made sure I had all of their 45s and albums. Those first two and the fourth albums—
Los Angeles, Wild Gift, More Fun in the New World—are masterworks, in my punk opinion. This photograph is from 1984 at the LACE gallery, for a book signing the band gave for the release of
Beyond and Back. A fan had given Exene the license plate and another fan asked to pose with her for a photograph. Exene looks absolutely gorgeous here.
