This is a split of two mid-tempo, female-fronted rock’n’roll bands. The Kowalskis: strange thing about The Kowalskis is that they can sing a song called “Depression Overdrive” and make it sound fun. That’s a good thing. They round off their side of the split with a cool anthem that could’ve been written by most of the women I’ve dated in the past: “I Love You Baby But I Hate Your Friends.” The Lulubelles: these ladies pick up the pace a bit and rip out of the speakers like a Dutch version of Fabulous Disaster. They have good harmonies and a lot of energy. This side of the record didn’t grab me at first, but now it won’t let me go.
