This record really stands the test of time. Jared has been making killer records since Karp disbanded. Karp’s Self-titledLP is just as crushing and groovy as his later work in Big Business and currently The Melvins. Here, he goes into detail about writing and recording this record, good times in Gainesville, and the demise of Karp. Thanks to Natalie who let us barge in on her scheduled time in the GROW studio to get this one done.
K Records did get back to us after the interview was conducted. To the best of their knowledge, they made 1,000 LPs one time, all black.
Technical note: This was recorded on two microphones. We shared one, Jared had the other. Somehow Jared’s mic didn’t record. His audio came through as a faint ghost through our mic. This was an editing nightmare. I won’t bore you with the tech details, but keep your volume knob close while you are listening.
