This cute little quarter-size zine begins with an introduction to author Annie Soga’s personal relationship with ginger, segues into a brief rundown of ginger’s history and medicinal properties, and then gets into the real content: a couple dozen thorough reviews of some of the varieties of ginger beer and ginger ale that can be found in New York City.A niche endeavor, to be sure, but Soga’s enthusiasm is infectious. If we’re being totally honest, I hadn’t fully mentally committed to reading every word of every review before doing my meta-review. No one would have been the wiser. But this drew me in, and now I know so many things about ginger ale, which I don’t even think I’ve ever actually had. This woman is a bona fide ginger ale connoisseur. I don’t know what kind of person actually seeks out a zine about ginger ale, but I feel unexpectedly satisfied about the time I spent reading this one. –Indiana Laub (Studium/Punctum, etsy.com/shop/studiumpunctum)
