Oh, this one brings me back. A bajillion different fonts at work, cut-and-paste layout, staples running along the side of the page, the majority of ads culled from local businesses. I really liked this zine—it was super reminiscent of my own early efforts, and the writers’ earnestness and enthusiasm is front and center throughout. GAD! focuses almost exclusively on the local scene of Gadsden, Alabama, with show reviews, record reviews of local bands, and interviews with filmmaker Ben Farley and the band Latin For Truth. Zines like this are just so cool and important to their communities and this one is clearly a labor of love. I doubt that the Gadsden scene is terribly huge, but these kids are definitely doing their part to keep the momentum going.
