Perhaps it’s the fact that I’ve been listening to Gang of Four’s first LP, Entertainment with alarming regularity the last four months and it’s seeped into two distinct conversations with people craving to listen to it when they visit. (And I’ve got to say that if you’re going for some Gang of Four for a first taste, go with that one) I think my ear’s feeling more angular lately. Perhaps I got a chuckle from Shit Sandwich Records playful stealing of the Stiff Records logo. All I know is that this came to me on the right day and I’m in the right mood, and as much as I didn’t care for the last Fuses record that came my way (the one with the playable cover), I totally dig this one. Call me inconsistent. Their android mannequin take on music just seems warmer this time and their hooks seem less like steely meat hooks clinically ripping a song apart and more like organic arms inviting you into the song. Also confusing is that I like their original, “Sex Crimes” much more than the “Me, I Disconnect from You” Gary Numan cover. Huh. Worth snapping your fingers along to while standing next to a lady with sexy, complicated eye makeup.
