FT (THE SHADOW GOVERNMENT): The Black and White Album: CD

May 26, 2008

If music were able to capture properly the unsettling psychological nervousness that comes with suspecting the presence of a government conspiracy theory, this is it. FT (The Shadow Government) is comprised of dudes from bands all over the Midwest, and their music is appropriately distrustful, sneaky, and maddeningly difficult to pin down. I was caught off guard by this at first, but more listening equaled more liking. For lack of effective ways to describe this, let’s just say that it could have been a decent soundtrack for late episodes of The X-Files or while reading 1984.It’s music for suspecting that we’re all being watched and it’s infectious, like the brooding insanity in development when you think everyone is out to get you.
