I have conflicted feelings about Dudes Magazine. It’s definitely a magazine for men—dudes, if you will. There are good interviews with Dan Vapid (The Methadones) and The Dwarves, as well as looking at issues of poverty and the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. There is some solid writing there. But on the other hand, there is an article called “Fresh Tits,” about new female reporters in the NFL. There is also an article by a guy who is annoyed and confused by seeing women’s NCAA basketball game scores on the ticker on ESPN or Fox Sports. I get that it’s a magazine for “dudes,” but I could’ve done with less sexism. If that makes me too PC, so be it. That being said, there’s a lot of diversity here: articles about Disney World, the death of a car, reviews of baseball stadiums, a pretty epic prank pulled on one of the authors, and much more. The wide variety of material is a plus, but unfortunately, some of it rubbed me the wrong way. -Kurt Morris (6819 Minnesota Ave., St. Louis, MO63111, dudesmag.com)
