If you enjoy California pop punk, chances are you already know and love the EastBay’s Civil War Rust. If not, I suggest you check them out as soon as possible. Melodic, often upbeat punk that is catchy as all hell, the lyrics on this record have familiar themes such as failed relationships (“You make me go outta my mind / Just another waste of both our time”) and trying to be a better person (“I spent three short days and restless nights / at the bottom of a bottle to clear my mind,” “We wanted revolution / all I got was another shitty shirt”). The only bummer is that the ten-track sophomore LP is less than twenty-five minutes long, so I have to keep it spinning on repeat. –Madeline
