BRONCHO: “It’s On” b/w “Kurt”: 7”

The wave of not-so-lo-fi garage revival bands has never really let up since all those “The” bands—Strokes, Hives, Vines, White Stripes, whoever else—burst forth at the start of the millennium to “bring rock’n’roll back.” These two tracks are distant descendants of that tradition, proto-punk garage rock infused with glam and a hint of poppy indie melody. Thankfully, the vocals depart from the blown-out yelping that usually accompanies this kind of retro rock. The frontman opts instead for a kind of studied whininess—or, to be more generous, a blasé Television-esque drawl. There’s a bit of a too-cool-for-school vibe, but that just comes with the territory.
