This is the sonic equivalent to getting your brains bashed in with a baseball bat. The songs are technical, with time changes throughout, some quiet pauses here and there, but for the most part it’s a lot of bashing back and forth. Black Kites remind me of bands like Acme, Judas Factor, and Overcast, though I think these guys have better results with their experimentation and bending of the rules in the hardcore genre. At times they get too bogged down in technical musicianship, such as on the song “Upsides”: too many time changes and the voiceover is a bit much. But when they let it rip on songs like “Masochist,” “And I Like It,” and “Futures” is when they’re at their best. The more focused songs are blistering. I heard there’s a member from Bloodtype in this band.
