#369 with Juan Espinosa: Razorcake Podcast
A long time ago, I’ve came to terms with the fact that I am not—nor will I ever be—a musician.
I picked up a guitar at age eleven only to find out that I didn’t much care for learning chords, scales, and reading notes on sheet music. I joined the string orchestra in junior high and learned a little of the basics but I knew the cello was not what I wanted to play. Later on, I started taking guitar classes with my brothers at a workshop where the instructor politely suggested that maybe the bass guitar was more of my style.
A few years after high school, I began playing bass with my brother’s band. You’ve never heard of them. I never thought the songs were very good. It was fun and we had fun playing backyards, bars, and the occasional hall, but I knew it was never going to amount to much.
Since then I’ve become comfortable with being a spectator in the DIY punk scene. Watching bands do their thing live is just as fun as listening to their records at home.
Don’t believe the hype: you actually do need a little bit of talent and know-how to write and perform music. Even in punk and hardcore. Here are a few songs from some talented folks who create the sounds that I will never be able to.

To download the file to your computer, right click the link below and select "save target as..." It's a hefty file, so it may take some time to download to your computer. To play the file without downloading (it depends on your computer's configuration for playing music files), just click it. Your media player should recognize what to do with an mp3. (If it doesn't, you're on your your own.)
