ARC ANGELES: Apocalisp: LP

Nov 20, 2023

The album and song titles are the first thing that caught my attention with this record. “Subtle Tease,” “Illuminaughty,” “Little Seizures,” et cetera are silly plays on words much like The Fucking Champs used to name some of their tunes (“Vangelis Again” is the apex of this device and likely won’t ever be topped). The goofy song titles belie the aural onslaught contained in the grooves; post-hardcore that leans towards the heavier side of late ’90s/early ’00s alternative rock. The first comps that sprung to mind were early At The Drive In and Helmet. There are some metal moves and math rock sections that fill out the sound. All of it is played with conviction and chops. A solid release from Rabbit Rabbit Records. –Josh Benke (Rabbit Rabbit, rabbitrabbitrecordspress.bigcartel.com)
