APPLE MAGGOT QUARANTINE AREA: Haunting the Apple: CD

AMQA play self-proclaimed “metallic death metal punk,” and hence they have a sound somewhat similar to all that crossover punk that was gaining traction in the mid- to late-’80s. But I don’t think this record is as metal as they think it is; for my money, its boots seem to be more firmly planted in the punk puddle. It’s snotty and irreverent as hell, and all in all not a bad record, but it came off as a bit derivative at times. Maybe we should give it a positive spin and call their sound an occasional homage to thrash punk of old? I bet they’re fun live, though... –The Lord Kveldulfr (PIG / DNA Project)
