ANTIQUATED VIEWS OF THE FUTURE: Thread Count: LP

Jul 20, 2022

Antiquated Views Of The Future make electronic music in the spirit of early synth pioneers, library musicians, maybe even new age seekers. In other words, a little Wendy Carlos or Delia Derbyshire, some KPM, perhaps some Ariel Kalma or Laraaji. The all-instrumental pieces on Thread Count are soundscapes, moods, and demonstrations more than songs, per se, and the effect can be hypnotic and engaging. If there’s an issue, it’s a kind of lack of imagination. The song titles are mostly just the names of different synthesizers, and there’s a restraint in the compositions that can be frustrating, giving one a sense of the limitations of electronic music rather than the possibilities. Still, as a library music fan, it’s always nice to hear what the sounds of tomorrow used to be. –Matt Werts (CIA, ciarecords2.bandcamp.com)
