ADAM VOID: Iron Horse: 7”

I thought the über-DIY nature of this release was cool, including the fact the record itself was hand-cut and fashioned, not pressed in a factory. The lyrics were found objects of words and text only, with music written to accompany them for this release. My appreciation for this ended when I was finally able to get it to play properly on a turntable without the stylus jumping the shark (the lack of starting grooves around the lip of the record is a huge pain). Apart from a tinny-sounding acoustic guitar occasionally strummed, there’s not a lot to hear amidst the hissing, skipping, and popping of the recording that I could accurately describe as music. Give me the old, fuzzy recordings of Woody Guthrie and Leadbelly over this any day. –Paul J. Comeau (Cut In The Fence)
